Zapp adjustable screens for Essex bar's new roof terrace

As part of a recent £500,000 refurbishment, Vertigo Lounge in Hornchurch, Essex, UK, has seen the installation of AGS screens from Zapp Umbrellas.

The company manufactured and installed seven adjustable glass screens (AGS), which face out from a second floor terrace opening out from the orangery.

The screens have been designed to enhance Vertigo's new alfresco open roof terrace experience, adding to an offer which now also includes a premium cafe during the day and a lounge par in the evening.

The 3,300sq ft venue, formerly a furniture store, covers three floors connected via an open staircase.

The Vertigo concept itself was launched after a gap was identified in the Hornchurch market for a venue for drinks before dinner.

Of the new screens, project manager and co-owner, Darren Eva said: "We needed to consider the recent smoking legislation and Zapp's balustrades give our customers a feeling of being in the inside whilst outside.

He added: "It was also important that during the day the balustrades could be placed in the lower position giving the feeling of integration with the street scene but could be adjusted during the evening into the higher position for improved comfort and safety.

"During the more inclement months the balustrade acts as an excellent windbreak which - together with an awning and radiant heaters - extends the use of the terrace significantly.

"Another unexpected bonus is the sound suppression from the street below."
